Sphere of Color from the Collection Named "Animal Instinct"

Sphere of Color is an original 21-inch painted sphere by the Mexican artist Yuri Zatarain, from his Animal Instinct collection. It is a sculpture and a painting at the same time: the canvas is curved and closed, so the work continues without a break all the way around. That geometry changes how it behaves in a room. There is no back and no correct viewing angle. Walk around it and the composition reorganizes itself, with different brushstrokes and different color leading each time. At 21 inches across, roughly 58 inches in circumference, it holds a pedestal, a large desk or a floor position without needing anything beside it. The surface is hand-painted in mixed technique over a smooth sculpted base: acrylic pigments laid in sweeping gestural strokes, deliberate drippings, and the fine linework that runs through Zatarain's practice.
