These bowls have a hollow wall you fill with water through a stoppered port in the base. Hot water before you serve and the food stays warm through the meal; cold water and a salad or a dessert stays cold. It is a simple bit of physics doing the work that a chafing dish or an ice bath would otherwise do, without either of them sitting on your table. Each bowl is 5.5 in across in white porcelain. The set is two bowls with stainless and rubber refill stoppers and a filling funnel, so you are not trying to pour into a small hole from a kettle. They are built for daily use but finished plainly enough for a laid table. Dishwasher and microwave safe, German designed.
