This is the Original Trendglas Jena glass water kettle, the 60 oz borosilicate 3.3 body fitted with a stainless steel lid and ball instead of a glass one. The lid is the only difference from the Classic, and it is the reason most people pick this version: steel does not shatter, and the lid is the part that gets dropped. The glass is certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation for minimal allergen release, which is why these are used in hospitals and schools as well as homes. Borosilicate 3.3 also resists water, neutral solutions and acid solutions, so nothing leaches and nothing builds up a taste. Two things to know before ordering. It does not work on induction stovetops, and the steel lid must come off before you use the kettle in the microwave. Gas and electric are both fine, and the whole kettle is dishwasher safe. It stands 6.5 in high, 8.7 in wide and 6.5 in deep, mouth blown in Hungary from German glass.

Borosilicate 3.3 German glass body with a stainless steel lid and ball, mouth blown in Hungary. Dishwasher safe. Microwave safe only with the lid removed. Gas and electric stovetop safe. Not for induction. Dry the steel lid after washing to keep it spot-free. Acid is what wears out cheaper glass and metal infusers, and borosilicate 3.3 is resistant to it. Lemon, rosehip and hibiscus will not corrode or cloud the surface, and nothing you brew carries over in taste. It takes hydrofluoric acid, concentrated phosphoric acid or strong alkali above 212 F to etch this glass, which puts it well outside kitchen use.
