This is the classic Trendglas Jena glass water kettle: a 60 oz body in borosilicate 3.3 with a glass ball lid, a design that has been in the range for over fifteen years. It boils on a gas or electric stovetop and it goes in the microwave with the lid on. The glass is the argument for it. Borosilicate 3.3 is highly resistant to water, neutral solutions and acid solutions, and the kettle is certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation, meaning it releases minimal allergens in use. That certification is why these turn up in hospitals and schools as well as kitchens. Nothing leaches into the water and nothing builds a taste over time, so what you boil is what you pour. Each kettle is mouth blown in Hungary from German glass. It measures 6.5 in high, 8.7 in wide and 6.5 in deep, and it is dishwasher safe.

Materials & Care

Borosilicate 3.3 German glass with a glass ball lid, mouth blown in Hungary. Dishwasher safe. Microwave safe with the lid on. Gas and electric stovetop safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes. This glass does not react with what goes in it. Daily hibiscus, lemon or rosehip will not corrode the surface, cloud it or leave a flavor behind for the next cup. The only substances that etch borosilicate 3.3 are hydrofluoric acid, concentrated phosphoric acid and strong alkali, and only above 212 F. None of them live in a home kitchen.
