This is the waiter's corkscrew that Paris café staff have used for decades, made in a gold-plated version. The curve of the body is not only styling; it is what makes the tool sit in the hand while you pull, and the whole thing folds down small enough to drop in a pocket. L'Atelier du Vin's Le Garçon design is the original, and the Golden Boy is that tool in a champagne-gold finish. Using it is the same three steps as any sommelier knife. Cut the foil with the cutting wheel set under the body of the corkscrew. Put the screw tip at the centre of the cork and twist down to the red dot, which tells you when you have gone far enough and no further. Then set the leverage arm firmly on the lip of the bottle neck and pull the handle up until the cork comes free. It is 18K gold-plated over stainless steel, French design, and it opens any bottle you are likely to put in front of it.
