The aim is narrow and useful: to find out which types and styles of wine are most likely to please you, rather than which ones you are supposed to admire. It solves two specific problems. The first is the supermarket aisle, where a hundred labels tell you nothing and you buy on price. The second is the moment a sommelier asks what kind of wine you like and you have no sentence ready. Working through the questions gives you the answer in your own words. You can also use it repeatedly as a taste check-up, because what you like moves over time.
